John Deere was a blacksmith and made the first steel plow out of a Scottish steel saw blade in 1836. In 1853 John Deere bought out Robert Tate and John Gould and was joined be his son Charles Deere. Deere manufacturing farm equipment such as, plows, wagons,corn planters and cultivators. 1869 Deere and Company won “Best and Greatest Display of Plows in Variety” in Illinois State fair. Deere bought out Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company. Deere made the first combine harvester in 1927 thin the first self-propelled combine in 1947. Deere made military tractors for WW2 and transmissions for the M3 tank. Deere made their first 4 and 2 cylinder tractors in 1960. John Deere sold more than 58,000 4010 from 1960 thru 1963. Deere made their own chainsaws. Deere made lawn mowers, gaiters, and 4-wheelers. Deere got bigger and well known. John Deere made articulated tractors and equipment because they are big or long so they can't have steering axles but steering joints. Deere made logging equipment for cutting, moving, and hauling trees. Dump trucks, graders, front end loaders, skidders, log harvesters, forwarder, and some tractors. More than 60% of American farmers have John Deere equipment on their farms.
